“Fund with Big Designs on Small Firms” – The Small Company Fund was featured in Investor’s Business Daily – Mutual Fund Profile on December 30, 2009. The article, written by Jonah Keri, describes the drivers behind the team’s ability to find companies early in their corporate life cycle. 

"Four Big Surprises" - The Brown Capital Management Small Company Fund appeared in the December 2009 edition of Kipliger’s Personal Finance. The author, Russell Kinnel, who is also Director of Mutual Fund Research for Morningstar and Editor of its monthly FundInvestor newsletter focused on funds that performed well last year in a terrible market decline and this year, during an incredible surge. He considers the performance of the Small Company Fund a surprise and credits its success to “remarkable patience” as evidenced by low turnover.

“Inside Wall Street” - Eddie Brown was recently interviewed by Business Week’s Gene Marcial.  One discussion appeared in the October 23, 2009 magazine and the other in the October 27, 2009 electronic edition.

Dennis Hightower Resigns from Brown Capital Management Board of Trustees
– After over 7 years as a Director of Brown Capital Management’s Board of Trustees, Dennis Hightower resigned in August 2009 to become the United States Deputy Secretary of Commerce.  Dennis is a seasoned business executive with extensive global general management experience. His distinguished career spans the private and public sectors, including more than 30 years of experience in global marketing, strategic planning, operations and international general management.  Additionally, Dennis formerly served as a Board Member for Accenture, Domino's Pizza, Lightfleet (a start-up high technology company), The Gillette Company, Northwest Airlines, PanAmSat Corporation, Phillip-Van Heusen Corporation, The TJX Companies Inc., and as a member of the Price Waterhouse Chairman's Advisory Council.  We are grateful for his contributions to Brown Capital Management.  We will miss most his perspective, focus and wit.  In recognition of Dennis’s many contributions, the attached appeared in the Business Section of the New York Times on October 11, 2009.
